Dr Kwon Kang is an ophthalmic surgeon, specialising in retinal disease and vitreoretinal surgery. He is active in research into retinal vein occlusion, macular degeneration and macular hole, and published numerous papers in major international journals.
Dr Kwon Kang attended medical school, and completed two undergraduate degrees, at the University of Sydney. He also attained Bachelor of Science degree with the University Medal.
Upon completion of his ophthalmology training at Prince of Wales Hospital, Dr Kang pursued a fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery and medical retina at Southampton University Hospital in the UK, where he also worked as a consultant in 2005 and 2006.
Since returning to Australia in 2007, Dr Kang has earned a reputation as a dedicated surgeon with strong ethics, remarkable surgical skills and excellent patient communication.
He routinely performs surgery for retinal detachment, macular hole, epiretinal membrane, diabetic retinopathy and cataract surgery also pterygium, pinguecula surgery.
Since 2003, Dr Kang has enjoyed being involved in humanitarian work with the Myanmar Eye Care Project. He was extremely honoured to receive the XOVA (eXcellence in Ophthalmology Vision Award) in 2014, on behalf of the program. There were just five winners from 88 high quality applications submitted by eye specialist institutions worldwide. He also speaks fluent Korean.
